Molkom and Kristinehamn Folk High School (folkhögskola) are two of the five folk high schools in the Värmland region. A folk high school is an educational institution for adults, focusing on the individual’s needs, prior knowledge, and experience. We place great emphasis on student participation in shaping their education. Common to both Molkom and Kristinehamn Folk High Schools is our commitment to training in fields that contribute to popular culture, such as animation, gaming, creative arts, and acting.

KRISTINEHAMN FOLK HIGH SCHOOL
This school is for those interested in gaming and nerd culture or who see a future in the gaming industry. At our school, you can deepen your knowledge in one of our game-focused courses. We also offer general courses and other preparatory courses for those who want to combine studies at an appropriate level with practical training that facilitates daily life or who want to attend a course that builds routine and security.
INDIE GAME DEVELOPER
At Kristinehamn Folk High School, you can enroll in a 2-year vocational program that provides a unique opportunity to work as a game developer in both local and international game companies upon completion. Many also choose to start their own game studios after graduation. A significant part of the program focuses on creating industry contacts. In the second year, there is an opportunity to attend events and game conferences both nationally and internationally.
CREATING WORLDS
In this one-year course, you can meet like-minded individuals and let your creativity shine, focusing on role-playing games, live-action role-playing (LARP), storytelling, and creating fantastic fictional worlds. Whether you dream of creating your own campaign world, want to meet new friends in nerd culture, learn to write stories, or explore something new and exciting, this course could be for you.
WORLD WRITING – DISTANCE LEARNING
This part-time distance course is aimed at those who write or are interested in writing literary texts such as prose and poetry connected to speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, and horror) or texts related to game culture, such as role-playing games, plots, and campaigns. Whether you already have a project you’re working on or have ideas you want to start with, your own creative writing will be the focus.
MOLKOM FOLK HIGH SCHOOL
One of Sweden’s oldest folk high schools, celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The school is located in Molkom, about 30 km north of Karlstad. We offer specialized courses in animation, film, and acting. You can also achieve university eligibility with a focus on acting. Our ambition is to always be at the forefront, and we set high standards for ourselves, ensuring we stay updated with the latest technology, maintain close contact with industries in our fields, and contribute to personal development and quality education for our students.
ANIMATION
An animation program focused on modern digital animation, drawing on traditional principles and methods to teach high-level animation. Based on various principles of animation, the course includes elements such as physics, friction, and volume. We teach this through 2D animation, 3D animation, and a combination sometimes called 2.5D.
ANIMATION AND CREATION NPF
This course is for those with neuropsychiatric diagnoses (NPF) who want to learn and develop in animation, image creation, storytelling, and other artistic expressions. The course is specially adapted with a smaller class size than standard and additional support staff alongside the teaching staff.
FILM – CREATING AND PRODUCING
An international course with a strong focus on modern film technology and the possibility of Steadicam certification. We have a film studio with Virtual Production and close collaboration with the acting course. During the course, we make international trips, and we cover many different professional roles within the film industry.
ACTING – STAGE AND FILM
Train to become an actor for both stage and screen. There is access to a modern Black Box for both theater productions and film productions through close collaboration with the film course. There is also the opportunity to apply for an additional year where you can train to become a film and theater pedagogue.
